Policy Question(s)
What policies could best support a healthy information ecosystem?
What elements are most important to develop an information ecosystem which supports trustworthy information, rather than simply opposing manipulated information?
What is the role that each stakeholder should play in the governance of the online information sphere?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Participants and attendees will be able to evaluate and discuss concrete proposals to improve the information ecosystem, and develop a common understanding of what elements are necessary to develop a more trustworthy online environment.
SDGs
Description:
Information manipulation, disinformation and the challenges that the information ecosystem has been facing in the past few years have brought stakeholders to work on how to counter threats and secure the infrastructure. While this is critical, an important component is missing from the conversation: how do we create and support an infrastructure that supports a healthy information ecosystem? What components have a positive impact on the flow of information? What level and type of collaboration across stakeholder groups is needed? How do we build and maintain a healthy information ecosystem? This session will build on the multistakeholder work of the Freedom Online Coalition, which included discussions across civil society, governments, and the private sector, to investigate the question of how to create and maintain an information ecosystem that promotes trustworthy information and user participation. It will investigate questions such as what components are necessary to improve trust in the system? How to secure agency for individual users and communities? What role should each stakeholder group play? The Freedom Online Coalition Task Force on Information Integrity released in 2024 a Blueprint on Information integrity. Based on that model, this session will be a discussion on those topics to develop a positive vision for the future of the internet.

Expected Outcomes
Review of the Blueprint on information integrity, and production of concrete policy reccomendations.
Hybrid Format: We would have a moderated roundtable that includes space both for in person and online participants. We will use a Easy retro board so that all can participate in the same space and interact.
